The lush vines intertwined, the little girl sat on a mat, dressed in a checkered pinafore. She gazed forlornly at the silver locket cradled in her arms.
She showed no tangible tears, they burned inside her.
The memories flashed by on a film roll: the locket which was given to her, the pale face at the window, a young past tinged with sorrow and grief.
She reminisced about the grey skies and the days spent frolicking in abandoned playgrounds with him; the silver locket which he gave her to hold the memories they shared.
Had they been more careful in showing their infatuation for each other - shown less passion in front of their parents, perhaps their fate would have been different.
The last time she had seen him was that face at the window.
They would never be together now.
She clutched the locket to her heart and cried aloud to the deciduous trees.
